This is the most important question that could ever be asked and answered. In a generation with many beliefs, philosophies and doctrines you may be asking- who can I trust? and where do I turn to find the answer? Take a few moments to read and ponder these four principles found in the Word of God and may God’s Spirit speak to you.
Realize
You need to realize the condition and need of your soul before God. Most people see themselves as a “good” person and that they do “bad” things, but that they are not that “bad”. But consider these verses found in God’s Word:
* Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
* Romans 3:10-12 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
* Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; You must realize that you are a sinner both by nature (that is you were born a sinner) and by act (that is you willfully choose to sin). Sin has eternal consequences:
* Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
* James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Sin brings death. Death is the most sobering reality in life, for it is something we will all experience. So the question that must be asked what happens after death?
* Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Sin brings death, death brings judgment and judgment brings an everlasting sentence:
* Re 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. These people found in this text trusted in their works and it is by their works that they were judged. Consider this text:
* Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. There is no work or deed that man can do to be justified or declared righteous in the eyes of God. Man is a sinner, because he is a sinner he dies and faces judgment and since at the judgment there are no works that can deliver him , he goes into eternal torment. But God is the God of mercy and grace. He does not leave man hopeless or helpless:
* Romans 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
* Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
* Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ paid the price for man’s sin that satisfied the holiness, righteousness and justice of God. You must realize that you are a sinner and that sin came with a price, that price was paid by Christ on the cross.
Repent
You must repent. Repentance is not a system of works in which man “turns over a new leaf” to appease God. Repentance is the work of God which changes the mind as to who you are and who Christ since and causes you to turn to Him for salvation:
* Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
* 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. It should be noted that genuine repentance results in a change of direction:
* 2Corithians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Repent- turn toward Christ as the means of your salvation.
Rely
Since you can not save yourself you must trust in the one who can save. Consider these verses:
* 1Co 15:1-5 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
* Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
* Eph 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
* Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
* John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
*Acts 16:30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. You must believe and trust on Jesus Christ to save you. You must rely upon Him for the forgiveness of your sin and for your eternal salvation. You must believe that He is the Son of God that died on the cross for your sins and that He resurrected conquering sin and death.
Receive
You must receive Christ to be your Saviour:
*John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: So the question is- How do I receive Christ?
* Ro 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. You receive Christ as your Saviour by realizing your lost and sinful condition before God and that because you are a sinner you will die and go to hell. But also realize that Jesus died in your place paying the price for your sin. So with a repenting mind and heart you turn toward Christ placing your faith in Him calling upon Him to save you.
Will you call upon Him asking Him to forgive and save you? He has given us a promise that if we believe on Him He will give us eternal life.
1 John 5:13 "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
